Brewing More Than Coffee at King’s Cup Café

25 September 2024

Nestled beside Razor Sharp Fitness, The King’s Cup Cafe stands apart—not just for its flavorful coffee, but for the deeper purpose it serves. Last November, Josie Garcia bought The Grind Cafe, fueled by a passion that goes far beyond brewing a great cup of coffee.

“I didn’t just want to serve coffee; I wanted to serve Christ,” she shares. That’s why she renamed it The King’s Cup, with a new sign arriving in just a few weeks to mark the transformation.

The King’s Cup is more than just a coffee shop. It’s a place of ministry, where customers can savor not only a coffee or pastry but also meaningful connection in a faith-filled environment. Josie’s vision was to create a space where people come to talk, engage, and share their stories—far from the typical café scene of people quietly working alone on their laptops. Here, it’s about community, conversation, and serving a greater purpose.

Josie and customers at King's Cup Cafe, Mt Pleasant, WIJosie’s journey into business was deeply influenced by her time working in group homes with senior citizens. “The most profound experience I’ve had, both personally and in business, was learning how to truly serve others. It changed my life,” she shares.  It’s this heart for service that makes the King’s Cup truly unique. Here, customers are greeted by praise and worship music, creating an atmosphere where faith flows as freely as the coffee. “We need more places like this,” Josie says, “where people feel free to talk about Christ in a public setting.”

Adding to the café’s charm, Josie encourages customers to take a moment and enjoy one of the many books scattered throughout the space—each one available to read or borrow, creating a community of shared wisdom and belonging.

Now, she is thrilled to watch the business grow, even in the face of challenges like inflation, and ongoing construction on the roads near the business. “We’ve had so many obstacles since day one, but the business is still moving forward.”

King’s Cup supports local causes by providing gift baskets for fundraisers, including events for HALO, a homeless shelter, and cancer research efforts. It’s another way that King’s Cup gives back, reflecting Josie Garcia’s commitment to service.

Looking ahead, King’s Cup plans to host a craft fair this fall, offering a space for local artists to showcase their work. And while hiring is currently paused, the business is steadily growing, with future plans for expansion.

At King’s Cup, it’s more than just coffee in your cup—it’s a place filled with praise, purpose, and the warmth of community. Stop by, grab a cup, and experience the warm atmosphere that is the King’s Cup.
